Amish School in Holmes County, Ohio. Note the outhouse, the water pump, and the cow grazing in the schoolyard. The teacher inside was nervously peering out the window at our car stopped on the road, so we took a quick photo and moved on, hopefully without distracting the students inside.

You could say, all the comforts of home, er, or not! ;-)

Has similarities to the Primary School that I attended, including the outhouse. But then, that was more than 50 years ago.

Alice, where did you attend primary school? Our state requires every elementary classroom to have at least four computers in each classroom. I've heard that a number of these rural schools have the required computers, but not the electricity to use them. An odd situation...

Judith, I went to a one-roomed, one-teacher school in country Victoria, Australia. The school had 7 classes, with children ranging in age from 5 to 12 years, but the total enrolment was never more than 25 pupils. We had no electricity or TV, and definitely no computers.
