Headlands Dunes. Today we hiked 6 miles, from Headlands Beach to Mentor Marsh. This wide expanse of sand dunes is quite rare along Ohio's Lake Erie shoreline. Fairport Harbor Lighthouse is in the distance.

Fireflies. Admittedly, a weird shot in the dark. I was trying to use the same approach that I used with lightning -- trying to take a series of rapid-fire shots, in hopes that I'd catch the fireflies with their lights on at the same time. All I can say is that it is easier to photograph a lightning strike. I managed to catch these three fireflies all lit up at the same time, but the shutter speed was so slow that they appear as streaks. For my UK visitors -- do you have fireflies over there?? They are wonderful little insects that come out around sunset in the summer.

Tonight's Wild Storm. I took 82 shots to get this one. Lightning was striking everywhere (except where I was pointing the camera usually). Several tornadoes were reported in the area.

Tiger swallowtail on the purple coneheads. Today I have a question for my visitors, inspired by Rock's "Up With the Birds" photo posted today (http://rskphotography.com/photoblog/index.php?showimage=75). He almost has me convinced to get up early, if the morning is going to be as beautiful as shown in his gulls photo today. This butterfly shot of mine was taken here at high noon. In any case: My question for you: Do you have a special time of day that you think is best for taking photos?

Barn Swallow nest in Patty's garage. They look about ready to leave the nest. Seems to be happening a lot in our neighborhood!
