Lake Lines Abstract. This was interesting to try, Ian. Suddenly the different textures became noticeable. The mood changes a bit too -- from a solitary walk on an endless beach to a kind of fascination with the here and now.

Live Dunes. That's blowing sand you see on top. Conditions were a bit difficult to shoot photos in as the sand was blowing everywhere -- I have an earful of sand to prove it! We were told the live dunes actually move with the wind. The "dead dunes" oddly enough are the stationary ones -- the ones with plants growing on them to anchor them.

Driftwood

Long way down. We went down to see Little Point Sauble lighthouse, and met a film crew from PBS just finishing up videotaping a portion of a feature on the Great Lakes. After they left, the lighthouse keeper asked us if we'd like to climb up to the top of the lighthouse, which is not normally open to the public. After an exhausting climb, we were rewarded with some magnificent views. Those little specks in the middle are people -- better seen if you click on the photo to get the larger version.

Lines in the sand. Each wave leaves a little line, with spaces decorated by various "paw" prints.

Light Waves. This week I have been fascinated with the clarity of the waters of Lake Michigan and the way sunlight is refracted through them. I have taken hundreds of photos of sunlit waves in a study of how to paint them.

Tritts Mill. Was a flour mill in 1836, then Higy cider mill for many years, all powered by water. You can see the remnants of the water wheel behind the tree. There is a dam on the Tuscarawas River to form Tritts Millpond, and some of the water (visible below building) was channeled off the pond to power the wheel. I hope somebody buys and restores this nice old mill. I'd like to see a waterwheel working there again someday.

Tuscarawas River. I bumped into the Tuscarawas River in an unexpected place -- Springfield, just north of us. I thought it ran down west of Akron to Zoar and points south, but here it was bubbling away east of Akron. Here you see a dam, which forms Tritts Mill Pond. Higy Cider Mill (formerly Tritts Flour Mill and powered by water) sits off to the right.

Bug buddies. I didn't notice the ladybug until well after taking the shot. Interesting -- both butterfly and ladybug are the same colors.

Backyard Spider. We have TWO now, the other being in the front yard. Er.... Rock, do you know where your spider is? Fairport Harbor Lighthouse. I spent this windy, wild day at Headlands Beach. Lake Erie was awash with sizable waves and whitecaps. After hours of walking the beach and shooting photos, I can still hear the wind and the surf.
