Lake Lines

  1. This would have made an inrteresting abstract with the top- portion cropped away.

  2. I like it as is. The wall of sand and the lines are interesting and the touch of blue at the top give it soothing effect.

  4. Yes it seems to work both ways for me, though I was hoping to be able to crop the "abstract" as a vertical rather than horizontal composition. I don't know if anyone will revisit this or not, but when I first started photoblogging, I read that the sure mark of an "amateur" was cropping images to non-standard digital image sizes (e.g., not 640x480, 1024x768, etc.) I winced because I had been doing that all the time. How do you people feel about cropping images? Is there a good reason to adhere to the usual 4:3 aspect ratio of a digital image when posting on a photoblog??

  5. Whoever wrote that was talking through his hat!

THe frame size and shape should suit the image not some fixed idea of what is right or wrong! More often than not I do not crop, but sometimes I do and I suppose I tend to stick to standard shapes - though I am by no means a pro.

In a blog, the best format is landscape and probably 4:3 because that is what fits easiest on a screen today, but any shape is fine by me. I do prefer it if I can fit the whole picture on at once though.
